Willam Klein は1928年ニューヨーク生まれ。1955年からファッション写真を撮影し、1956年この「ニューヨーク」を刊行しました。この写真集は写真史にとって歴史的な1冊となっています。ピントをずらしたり手ブレを利用した、いわゆる「ブレ、ボケ」などを駆使しそれまで主流であったストレートで整った写実的表現のタブーを破り、大胆かつインパクトの強い写真表現をしました。このスタイルは今なお世界中の多くの写真家に影響を与えています。

William Klein was born in 1928, and started fashion photo in 1955. In 1956, he published this "New York." This title is one of the most faimous photobooks in the world. Photos like straight and good composition were main stream until then. However, he expressed his daring and strong impression style using out-focus and taken with hand shakes named "Are, Bre" and broke taboo of Photogapy. This style still has infulence on many photographers in the world.
