ウィリアム・クライン / Willam Kleinは1928年ニューヨーク生まれ。アメリカ陸軍除隊後絵画を学び、写真を実験的に取り入れた作風をVOGUE誌のアートディレクター、アレクサンダー・リーバーマンに見出され、1955年からファッション写真を撮影し始めます。1956年に発表されたこちらの写真集『ニューヨーク』は写真史を語る上で欠かせない、言わずと知れた1冊です。ピントをずらしたり手ブレを利用したいわゆるアレ・ブレ・ボケなどを駆使し、それまで主流であったストレートで整った写実的表現のタブーを破ったことで、インパクトの強い写真の表現を打ち出しました。絵画や建築の素養とファッション写真の実績に裏付けられたスナップ写真の魅力は、現在もなお世界中の写真家に影響を与えています。

William Klein was born in 1928, and started fashion photo in 1955. In 1956, he published this "New York." This title is one of the most faimous photobooks in the world. Photos like straight and good composition were main stream until then. However, he expressed his daring and strong impression style using out-focus and taken with hand shakes named "Are, Bre" and broke taboo of Photogapy. This style still has infulence on many photographers in the world.
