TKY was produced and published as part of PRINTING SHOW, held on November 4-5, 2011 at the Aperture gallery.
PRINTING SHOW is a Goliga project organized by Ivan Vartanian.
PRINTING SHOW is a re-staging of MORIYAMA DAIDO PRINTING SHOW, which was performed at the Shimizu Gallery in Tokyo, March 23-31, 1974. In lieu of mounting photographic prints on the walls of the gallery, Moriyama instead installed a photocopy machine and silk-screen printing station in the gallery space. Using this equipment, he generated an ad hoc photobook composed of photocopied sheets, staple-bound inside a silk-screen cover. That book was called Another Country in New York, making use of photographs that he shot while in New York City in the winter of 1971. In the 2011 re-staging, TKY features work shot in Tokyo over the last ten years, reciprocating the New York-Tokyo exchange.
Attendees to the event were invited to participate in the editing and sequencing of their own copy of TKY, choosing from a menu of fifty-four double-sided sheets and two different cover options.
