横尾忠則 Tadanori Yokoo
1936年兵庫県西脇市生まれ。1960年代からグラフィックデザイナーとして日本のポップシーンや前衛シーンを駆け抜け秀逸なポスターを数多く手掛ける。その独自の画境は、三島由紀夫、寺山修司らにも高く評価された。80年にニューヨーク近代美術館でピカソ展を見た事をきっかけに、翌81年「画家宣言」をする。以降、＜滝＞、＜Y字路＞シリーズなど、夢と現（うつ）、生と死を行き来する横尾芸術が更に進化していく。「死の側に立って、現実の生を見つめる」という視点に立ち、質量ともに圧倒的な作品を作り続け、現在世界で120もの美術館が横尾作品を所蔵している。
Born in 1936 in Nishiwaki, Hyōgo Prefecture, he emerged in the 1960s as a graphic designer, creating many remarkable posters within Japan’s pop and avant-garde scenes. His unique vision was highly praised by Yukio Mishima and Shuji Terayama.
After seeing a Picasso exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art in 1980, he declared himself a painter in 1981. Since then, he has continued to produce powerful works exploring themes of dream and reality, life and death, and today his works are held in about 120 museums worldwide.
